ETC International Theatre Conference

The ETC International Theatre Conferences are an opportunity for ETC members and selected guests to explore new trends in European theatre, and a forum for exchange, debate and networking. This spring’s conference hosted by Schauspielhaus Graz will focus on freedom of artistic expression and new writing, and a key element will be the ENGAGE Festival, on 10 June, featuring the joint readings of new texts by the authors Patty Kim Hamilton, Casper Vanderputte and Ond?ej Novotný in an English-language premiere. Alongside the Young Europe Festival To:gather, these events constitute ETC’s week-long celebration of new writing: The Week of New European Drama.

CASPER VANDERPUTTE “SWEET SIXTEEN”
De Toneelmakerij / The Netherlands
Casper Vanderputte's “Sweet Sixteen” is a powerful play on a most relevant and difficult subject, suicide at a young age. It speaks from a unique perspective, thus creating a magical, but still vivid story-world.

OND?EJ NOVOTNÝ “OTEC HLÍDÁ DCERU”
National Theatre Prague / Czech Republic
Ond?ej Novotný‘s “Father Looks After Daughter” is a play built around a young father taking his pre-school daughter for a walk in a park and to the playground. The play tackles intergenerational dialogue, with dynamic situations and very natural interactions between the different characters.

PATTY KIM HAMILTON “SEX PLAY”
Deutsches Theater Berlin / Germany
Patty Kim Hamilton’s “Sex Play” portrays with talent the increasingly complicated topics of human sexuality and gender identities, as well as the stress, frustration and sometimes violence these topics carry.
